I will say that when it comes to farming, nothing seems to beat a competent 600hp monk and a bonding hero. where else can you clear most dungeons with only 2 in the party. Maybe a perma SF sin but they seem to still just be good for short bursts of farming. But then again, sin is a profession that i really havent touched on much so i dont have the knowledge to form any objective opinion.

I like my necromancer because it was the first thing I tried in the game. And it's what I'm best with. I use it for the utility, mostly. Soul reaping is very nice, I try to factor it in to all my builds. I rather enjoy a Curses/Illusion hexer for my main build. But Minion Master is rather enjoyable too. I made it because I was drawn to the class, I kept it for the Vabbian Armor. <3 I've been told I look like a butterfly. :]

Permaforms are sort of overrated and kind of energy intensive in longer bouts. xD They're good for chestrunning and in most spots town to town running. But Fighting with them is pretty hit-or-miss.

I like necros because they can fill the role of every other class.

Warrior- the meleemancer. Not common or particularly effective, but still fun.
Mesmer- can shut down well with fun stuff like SS and IP
Ele- can deal just as much damage
Monk- can remove a bunch of conditions with foul feast/infuse condition
Rit- a necro with a secondary rit can be a better rit than a primary rit
Paragon- great party support with a horde of minions

i'll think of reasons for ranger, sin, and derv later

Mini Army of bombs or high hitting corpses, melee hate, caster hate, life steals, shut downs, farming, nuking, healing...In fact the only thing they can't do is interrupt or hit people with little swords and axes...

Spinal Shivers? Ok it's not great and it's conditional, but it's there.
But yeah, they can't survive at all at melee range.

If you like no energy then Spinal Shivers works.
